Erik McLaughlin
Co-Founder & CPA
Erik handles the business side of Bold North, including finance, growth, and business development. Before co-founding the company, he worked at a Big 4 accounting firm and then joined a local real estate developer where he helped scale a small business from the ground up. He holds both a CPA license and a real estate license in Minnesota. Outside of work, Erik lives in Minneapolis and enjoys traveling, staying active, and time with family and friends.
Ryan Emmerich
Co-Founder & General Contractor
Ryan leads production and operations at Bold North. He started in roofing as a laborer during college summers and never left the industry. Over more than a decade, he has worked every role from roofer to project manager to sales manager, completing over 1,000 residential, commercial, and multi-family jobs. He holds a General Contractor’s license. Ryan lives in Burnsville with his girlfriend and two dogs, and spends his free time hunting, fishing, and outdoors.
Why We Started Bold North

The founders of Bold North, Ryan and Erik, were both born and raised in Minnesota before heading to the University of North Dakota for college where they met. Ryan went to school for Teaching and Erik went to school for Accounting where they both graduated at the top of their respective classes.
Ryan started working in the roofing industry during his summers when he was not teaching and quickly learned that roofing was his passion which he transitioned to full-time shortly thereafter. Since then, Ryan has worked in every facet of the industry from Roofer to Project Manager to Sales Manager where he has completed over a 1,000 jobs in residential, commercial, and multi-family. He also holds his General Contractor’s license.
Erik started working as a CPA at a big4 accounting firm after college which he quickly realized was not his passion. He then joined a local real estate developer where he gained experience in commercial real estate and what it takes to grow and scale a small business. He also holds his real estate license.
During the last several years, both Ryan and Erik figured out that they had aspirations beyond just working a 9-5 job so they began buying old houses to renovate which they then rented out to families in need. This feeling of serving the communities they grew up in through providing safe and affordable homes was the main driver that created Bold North Roofing and Contracting. With this new venture, Ryan and Erik are now able to work directly with homeowners to ensure that their houses are properly protected so that they are able to go boldly into any storm or night.
